New Hanover County Fire Rescue Department is formed by a combination of full time, part time, and volunteer staff. An average of 5000 emergency calls are responded per year. The calls consist of emergency medical, fire suppression, automobile accidents, technical rescues, and Hazardous Materials. The New Hanover County Fire Rescue Department operates under the following 3 divisions: Administration, Logistics, and Operations.

Wrightsville Beach Fire Department is located in the city of Wrightsville Beach. This Fire Department is formed by career and volunteer firefighters. Approximately 150 fire alarms and 350 emergency medical calls are responded annually. There Public Protection Classification is 4 from a scale of scale of 10 to1 with 1 being a perfect score. Their
fire apparatus include one pumper and two combination pumper/aerial rigs. The combined pumping capacity of these apparatus is 4000 gallons of water per minute. We continuously staff a 4-wheel drive emergency medical "squad" with an EMT.
